Rouge River Wetland Restoration Program

Watch the video!

Check out this great video from the Toronto Zoo. The project works with volunteers to restore wetlands in the Rouge River to improve habitats for species such as Blanding’s turtle, snapping turtle and northern map turtle, eastern red back salamander, least bittern and trumpeter swan. Funded in part by the Land Stewardship and Habitat Restoration Program of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the project is a great illustration of the kinds of interventions that can improve the health of permanent and ephemeral wetlands for the benefit of many species of wildlife, including species at risk.
